Software Engineering - MC- 130E Combat Talon I

We are a team of highly skilled people with proven software engineering expertise in engineering and business applications in an embedded environment. Since 1998 LOT Software Engineering Consultant has been providing custom software solutions to unique engineering and business problems and we must be doing something right - our customers keep coming back. From our perspective, that is the highest compliment we can receive.

The MC-130E Combat Talon I (CT-I) aircraft, is an operational system, consisting of several component systems. The aircraft performs missions that require terrain following navigation, sensors, electronic warfare/electronic countermeasure and communications systems. Due to the criticality of the CT-I mission, the navigation and sensor systems must be extremely accurate. Data from several sources is continuously combined using Kalman filters in the mission computer to update the aircraft's present position.

The MC-130E CT-I program software was supported by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works (LMSW) under the direction of Warner Robins-Air Logistics Center (WR-ALC) until the government developed an organic support capability. Engineering responsibility for the software is supported by WR-ALC.

The major functions of the MC-130E CT-I system are as follows:

  • Compute and maintain aircraft position, velocity and altitude
  • Provide the Navigator with a set of standard calculations
  • Perform mission data management
  • Determine content of the Control Display Units (CDU)
  • Determine Radar/Nav presentation on the Digital Scan Converter
  • Provides Terrain Following and/or Terrain Avoidance Capabilities
  • Redundancy checks and reliability monitoring of critical components

LOT Software Engineering Consultant was a team member who performed ongoing software maintenance and support on the MC- 130E CT-I Operational Flight Program (OFP) and CDU for the US Air Force.

Performed software maintenance and support on the following CT-I navigation and weapon systems:

  • Mission Computers
  • Inertial Navigation Units
  • Control Display Units
  • Doppler Velocity Sensor
  • Digital Scan Converter
  • Global Positioning System
  • Terrain Following and Terrain Avoidance Radar
  • Radar Altimeter
  • Infrared Warning Receiver
  • NVG Head-Up Display
  • Electronic Warfare/Electronic Countermeasure System

Additionally, LOT Software Engineering Consultant was one of the key persons who performed independent verification and validation (IV&V) in the transition of the CT-I OFP and CDU project management and software maintenance activities from Lockheed Martin Skunk Works to WR-ALC in Warner Robins GA.
