The Multiple Entry Point Postage System (MEPPS) aids the United States Postal Service (USPS) and the mailing industry in the conversion from manual
processing of postage statements (formerly mailing statement) to an electronic data interchange (EDI) form
of processing.
|
| |
|
MEPPS was designed, developed and maintained by LOT Software Engineering Consultant for the USPS. It was implemented
over the mailer's Local Area Network (LAN). MEPPS provides the ability to create consolidated postage statements for
Standard Mail and Package Services mailers that take advantage of drop ship discounts. MEPPS is located in over 90
percent of the large mailers plant. MEPPS reduces the amount of paper and the amount of work necessary to accept
consolidated mailings.
|
| |
|
MEPPS major functions are:
- Input Postage Statement Data
- Import Postage Statements Data
- Validate Mailer's Address
- Process Postage Statements
- Print Individual Postage Statement
- Print Consolidated Postage Statement
- Print Register of Postage Statements
- Export Postage Statements Data
- Closeout Mailing
- Archive & Transmit Postage Statements Data

|
MEPPS is used exclusively by large mailers that have a Detached Mail Unit (DMU) with USPS personnel on site.
The software is designed to expedite and facilitate the generation of postage statements information from the
mailer to the DMU and to assist USPS personnel in the DMU to perform activities associated with verification.
Using MEPPS does not supersede the Domestic Mail Manual (DMM) requirements. Rather, using MEPPS provides both
the mailer and the USPS with an alternative to hard copy Individual Postage Statement and Registers associated
with Drop Shipment.
